Event description

The streets surrounding Patricia’s Green in Hayes Valley will be closed to automobile traffic all week long. Tonight they come alive with art and entertainment! San Francisco artist Charlie Gadekan will be on hand to demonstrate the range of light display for his 50’ tall public art piece “Squared.” There will be interactive controls so you can manipulate the lighting effects. We will be celebrating Proxy, a temporary two-block urban project adjacent to Patricia’s Green, which seeks to mobilize a flexible environment of food, art, culture, and retail within renovated shipping containers. Proxy was conceived by envelope A+D , an award-winning architecture + design firm. Please join us for food trucks + more!

Squared, by Artist Charlie Gadekan, San Francisco

This recently installed public art piece, which had its official opening on May 5, 2018, will be seen for one year at this location as part of the San Francisco Art Commission’s program for temporary public art at this site. The 50’ high obelisk is made of square steel tubing with each ‘branch’ holding 800 cast polyurethane cubes with inset full color LED lights. This is a post-nature construct of steel and light that has the ability to display complex color patterns on special occasions. If you stop by in the evening during the week ‘Squared’ will mostly be displaying a very quiet but beautiful change of colors. See listing for Friday May 8 for the interactive art event.
