Top interior designers Catherine Kwong, Gary Hutton, Jay Jeffers and Eche Martinez reveal details of their creative process and strategic thinking. Moderated by design editor/author Diane Dorrans Saeks, these four California interior designers present selected images from their recent portfolios and show us new works on the boards.

Catherine Kwong started her career in New York, designing interiors for Studio Sofield and flagship stores for Ralph Lauren. She opened Catherine Kwong Design in 2011 and has worked on interior design projects all over the world. Catherine holds degrees from Brown University and Parsons School of Design.

Gary Hutton, who studied fine art at UC Davis and design at the California College of Art, celebrates his 40th year as an interior designer and furniture designer. His new book, ‘Art House’ (Assouline), showcases his highly successful furniture collection. Gary is a committed modernist. His work embodies the highest aesthetic ideals. His mantra: Dedication, Focus, Innovation.

Jay Jeffers, originally from Texas, is the author of “Collected Cool” (now in its second printing by Rizzoli). Since establishing his San Francisco-based interior design firm in 1999, Jay has designed residences, resorts and hotels in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Wine Country, Los Angeles, New York and beyond. He is currently creating signature collections of furniture, accessories and lighting for Arteriors.

Eche Martinez, originally from Argentina, founded his design firm in 2014. Bold color and a fresh approach to interiors have made Eche the new favorite designer for young families, tech couples, and entrepreneurs in the financial and art worlds. Influenced by classical design and employing bold contemporary art, he also uses graphics, photography and technical innovation to accent his spaces.

Diane Dorrans Saeks is the author of 22 books on design/architecture/style, including ‘Jean-Louis Deniot Interiors’ and ‘Orlando Diaz-Azcuy’ (recently published by Rizzoli). She is the founder/owner of the widely admired blog, THE STYLE SALONISTE, which is followed in 149 countries. She is also a design magazine editor and a UC Berkeley Extension instructor.

An informal reception to meet the designers and discuss topics presented in the seminar will take place immediately after in the Hub area adjacent to the seminar classroom.
